Updates

Happy Chinese New Year to the team.

An update of us thus far.
Our school internship period is about to end soon.
We've changed our plan since the Spinn0vex event. We've placed the Project: 'The New Game: Dimension X' on hold. I guess we were too overambitious in the pass that we've overlook our game development time availability. Anyway, being that on hold, YZ is working on the reworking of our 'Impetus' to make it more object-oriented in terms of programming. Then we'll tweaking some stuffs and add in more game features.

Based on the feedbacks of our game exhibition on Spinn0vex, our game is definitely not the best but is one of the local first few who tries to make it look good at our best effort. There's some requests of our game to be released on XBox live or at lease release it somewhere. We're in the direction of that. But no promises yet and not too soon. ^^

Back To Game

Hi! Just a reminder to tell you that we are not dead!

All of our members were just busy with our school ITP.
Even myself sometimes felt like treasuring my life and not staying up late for the sake of game development.

I plan to get a new member of sound artist. Basically, he/she will be incharge of our game audio. Currently, I'm overloading myself with that task. But don't need to worry, the game audio won't be the priority for now, but I still think that it would be better if we have that early. But if we can't get a new sound artist, I guess it is still fine with that.

For now, our game development have been quite slow.
But pretty soon, we'll be back active as usual. As soon as I'm satisfied with my scene editor - that is. Of yes, not forgetting, though has been mentioned unofficially, we've recruited and welcomed a new devScissorsX 3D character modeller, 'wJ'. He's from Temasek Poly and YZ recruited him from his ITP workplace. So now there's 6 active knights of DevScissorsX.
So let's partiii..

Aloha yea!

Trip to Microsoft

Woot! Today we went to One Marina Boulevard. The shuttle bus brought a group of SP students & staffs to Microsoft. We reached the place at 2pm. The talk by Mr Stanley Lai was pretty interesting. He talked about Silverlite, and some stuffs that Microsoft did which was technologically useful and advance. Was kinda impressed by what the Street directory could do nowadays. It has improved definitely as compare to 10 years ago. haha.Such as the flexibility and ability of degree of zooming in and out was perfect. He mentioned about how important 'experience' for end-users is. Later on, a lady also did a presentation covering one of the topics on Imagine Cup.

After the presentation, they presented five XBOX 360 games to the top assignment team.We received the tokens from the presenter and smiled !=D **Say Cheese \/**

Games Convention Asia Conference 18th-19th September 2008‏

devScissorsX will be in one of the GCAC booth promoting Impetus as well as our other schoolmates' project, D3DXMATRIX's TrashThis.
Besides that, we'll also be promoting our diploma course from our school, Singapore P0lytechnic's Information Technology (Game Development Option).
This will be the first time ever in history that devScissorsX exposes themselves to the public.

The following message below was from an email that contains an information about the upcoming Games Convention Asia Conference.

I just wanted to send a quick reminder that Games Convention Asian Conference is happening 18th and 19th this week at Suntec City, level 3. GCAC is Asia’s biggest and best developer conference with more than 500 developers from across Asia, Europe and US coming together to learn, find inspiration and network.

There's a really amazing lineup for developers this year, with some amazing keynotes
* Peter Molyneux of Lionhead and Bullfrog [Fable, Black&White, Populous, Syndicate, Dungeon Keeper, etc].
* Cevat Yarli, the founder of Crytek (Farcry, Crysis)
* Joonmo Kwon, the CEO of Nexon Corp (Kartrider, Maplestory)

There's also a really cool lineup of other speakers; some of the ones I'm personally going to try to catch are:

Ragnar Tornquist, Creative Director of Funcom (Age of Conan, Anarchy Online) speaking about storytelling and universe building in MMOs. Ragnar’s one of my favourite storytellers, and he’s got a lot of experience in the MMO field, in addition to being the lead designer behind gorgeous adventure games Dreamfall and Longest Journey.

Gary Mi, Producer for Radiance, talking about developing and publishing games in china. Gary brings experience from working in Singapore (Koei), Shanghai (Radiance), Taiwan and US. He’s also been on the steering committees for IGDA in both Singapore and Shanghai.

Garett Wiley, Founder and VP of Finance of Red5, a massive MMO startup formed by the core development team of WOW, which he helped raise capital for. Garett is talking about how they raised capital, and what separates a winning company from a loosing one.

Veteran game developer Don Daglow has been making games longer than I’ve been alive (his oldest credits are for a game called simply Baseball, released in 1971), most recently forming and running Stormfront from 1988-2007 (Lord of the Rings: Two Towers, Stronghold, in total >12M units sold). He’s now looking at mobile and casual games, and will talk about designing for small footprint games. This talk shouldn’t be missed.

Claude Langlais, the Technical Director for Assassin’s Creed and Prince of Persia, talking about the implementation of crowds and Crowd AIs in Assassin’s Creed. This talk covers pipeline, tools and code for one of the games that's defined next gen in terms of control and character animation.

John Neimann, President of Asia Publishing, EA, talking about virtual economies and their intersection with the real economy. EA's going into this in a big way with FIFA Online and Battlefront; Heroes, and John's one of the biggest guns EA has.. should be interesting.

Theo Sanders is the VP of marketing for Razer, and he'll be talking about the evolution and future of control mechanisms (so not just a razer promo). Theo came from Blizzard, having worked as multiplayer producer on WOW and Starcraft II.

There’s also a bunch of general interest talks and panels, on everything from pitching games, finding outsourcers, and the future of gaming as a media.

Attached is the full schedule for the program; hopefully there’s something for everyone, with amazing keynotes, insightful lectures, and fun free parties/networking events at night. To read more about the speakers you can hit the website at www.gc-asia.sg

Hope to see you all there!

Dev History:
The team's project originally made for the team's polytechnic module called, 'Console Game Development' for XBox 360 using XNA GameStudio 2.0. Gameplay was originally belonged to YZ's and XxJYxX's project in it's early phase. [R]idz and RainA who were then working together on a project decided to merge with them upon YZ's suggestion due to both parties interest of time and game completeness. After the end of presentation for the project, the team direction is to compete in the Dream.Build.Play 2008. The team later recruited Law, a close classmates as well as the leader of his own 2D game along with Xue.
